While visiting Akumal and enjoying its beauty, please keep in mind that the ocean is a visual world to be observed rather than handled. When snorkeling, avoid touching or standing on the coral. Coral is not rock, but a delicate living creature.

By feeding the fish, tourists discourage them from their very important job of keeping the coral clean, so please refrain from this type of interaction.

(The Mesoamerican reef is in a desperate struggle to keep its precious ecosystem alive. By following these simple guidelines you are assuring its survival for future generations. )
