If you need a gift for someone back home or you just want a special memento to always remember the vacation you spent in Akumal, there are several gift shops in the center of town offering everything from original folk art and hand-made jewelry to souvenir t-shirts.

Sarongs make great inexpensive gifts. They can be used for everything from wrapping around your bathing suit to decorating. Oshun gift shop has the most unique sarongs on the coast. They are as beautiful as the ones found in the trendy 5th Avenue boutiques in Playa del Carmen.

If you are staying in a villa or condo in Akumal, you may want to cook some of your meals. Of course, there are several convenience stores in Akumal, but buying fresh fruits and vegetables locally is a little trickier.

The Chomak convenience store at the front of Akumal — just before the arch — has a few fresh fruits and vegetables. It’s a small selection and you will pay for the convenience but they will be nicely presented and you just might find what you want in their small selection.
