During your vacation in Akumal, there may be a night during the week that you want to pick up some food to go, stay in, and enjoy your villa. Something quick, casual, and appropriate for “para llevar”. But what? Here’s our tip for a great to go item. Pizza.

The only pizza in town in Akumal is at the Lol-ha. And it is delicious. Our favorite? Mine, simply the pepperoni. My girl, the shrimp pizza.

Pizza is avaialble in Akumal. A popular treat for kids and adults, this pizza is good and uses mozzarella instead of the local manchego cheese.

Unlike the other local favorite pizza place in the pueblo but 12 minutes down Highway 307, Lol-ha’s pizza is very convenient, located right in Central Akumal. And Lol-ha uses mozzarella cheese like a pizza should use, not the local queso, manchego, which is used in pueblo pizza restaurants. Mozzarella makes for a much more yummy pizza.

Although you will see a sign for “Pizzeria” when you pass under the arch in Akumal, there is no actual separate pizza restaurant. The pizza oven is in the Lol-ha restaurant, although situated separately from the Lol-ha main kitchen. You can order your pizza either at the front of the restaurant, but we suggest ordering at the Lol-ha beach bar, so you can sit and have a cold libation by the sea while you wait 15 minutes for your pizza.

The Lol-ha pizza is not available until 2 PM in the afternoons, so order one for a late lunch or an early-evening meal on an evening you plan to hit Playa del Carmen. It will tie your tummy over until you sit down at a Playa del Carmen restaurant much later in the evening.
