Empañadas de Queso Crema (Mayan Cream Cheese Empanadas)

masa harina
water
salt
cream cheese
vegetable oil

Make a dough by mixing the masa harina with the water and add a little salt to taste. This dough should be like pasta dough.

Using two pieces of plastic or a tortilla press, roll out tortillas 4 inches in diameter.

Fill each tortilla with a tablespoon of cream cheese. Fold in half and lightly wet the edges of the tortillas. Press together.

Make as many as you want and then heat your oil until hot but not smoking. Fry the empanadas until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Serve with salsa picante and fried tomato sauce (see recipe).
