La Buena Vida

The best view of Half Moon Bay is from the crow’s nest at the La Buena Vida beach bar. The view from the crow’s nest is exhilarating. Prime romantic spot for lovers toasting the setting sun.

Here is one of our favorite romantic tips just before sunset at the La Buena Vida beach bar in North Akumal.

Arrive at La Buena Vida late in the afternoon. Pick up a bottle of wine at the bar with a couple of wine glasses and have the waiter uncork it for you.

There are two crow’s nests perched on the sands next to the restaurant. Climb the ladder to one of the crow’s nests and toast with your lover overlooking Half Moon Bay.

Along with the unique bird’s eye view of North Akumal’s Half Moon Bay, as the afternoon wanes, you can see the sun setting behind you over the jungle. A very romantic view.

We suggest taking a bottle of wine up to the crow’s nest, because if you are drinking cocktails, it can be a little difficult getting the attention of a busy waiter when you are situated so high above his periphery. A bottle of wine (or two) gives you enough bebidas so you can enjoy this relaxing view in serenity without interruption and without the frustration of not being able to get another beverage promptly.

Order a chilled bottle of white for hot afternoons. In the high season months, it may get a little chilly and windy up in the crow’s nest, so bring a jacket.

For a lower-budget alternative, stop in the Corner Store next to the La Buena Vida beach bar and pick up a bottle (or two) of wine there. (Don’t worry, the Corner Store is owned by the same management as La Buena Vida.)

But you will have to come prepared. From your villa or condo, bring a wine bottle opener and a couple of plastic wine glasses. If you will want white wine, bring a small cooler with you and purchase a bag of ice at the Corner Store along with your wine. Drop a chip of ice in each glass of wine while the rest of the bottle chills in your cooler.

While you toast to your love, hang onto your glasses for dear life. A gust of wind in the La Buena Vida crow’s nest can cause your wine glass to topple and spill that precious vino. Look out below!
